Read the Letter From Nobel Laureates Urging That Mr. Kennedy Not be Confirmed
December ninth, 2024
To Members of the United States Senate:
We, the undersigned Nobel Laureates, are writing to ask you to
oppose the affirmation of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as Secretary of the
Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
The proposal to put Mr. Kennedy in command of the federal companies
answerable for defending the health of American residents and for
conducting the medical analysis that advantages our nation and the
remainder of humanity has been broadly criticized on a number of grounds. In
addition to his lack of credentials or related expertise in
drugs, science, public health, or administration, Mr. Kennedy has
been an opponent of many health-protecting and life-saving
vaccines, reminiscent of those who forestall measles and polio; a critic of
the well-established optimistic results of fluoridation of consuming
water; a promoter of conspiracy theories about remarkably
profitable remedies for AIDS and different illnesses; and a belligerent
critic of revered companies (particularly the Food and Drug
Administration, the Centers for Disease Control, and the National
Institutes of Health). The chief of DHHS ought to proceed to nurture
and improve— not threaten—these necessary and extremely revered
establishments and their workers.
In view of his file, inserting Mr. Kennedy in command of DHHS would
put the public’s health in jeopardy and undermine America’s world
management in the health sciences, in each the public and industrial
sectors.
