JIM DALY STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF DR. TIM KELLER

Dr. Tim Keller’s dying as we speak marks the shut of a exceptional private ministry of a very good man who lived faithfully, tirelessly, and creatively for the Lord.

His final phrases to his beloved spouse Kathy ought to encourage and convict each Christian believer. According to his son Michael, as he lay dying, Tim stated, “There is no downside for me leaving, not in the slightest.” He then kissed Kathy’s brow, laid again down – and went to Glory.

A quiet, cerebral, steely man of sound doctrine and robust conviction, Dr. Keller was sometimes called the C.S. Lewis of our time, and with good motive. A gifted trainer and preacher, whether or not in print or talking from the pulpit, he engaged each the pinnacle and the center.

Over the course of the final eleven years, I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of each interviewing and visiting with Dr. Tim Keller many instances. Most just lately, I sat with Tim outdoors his house on Roosevelt Island overlooking the East River to debate his glorious guide on forgiveness.

At the time, Tim knew he was dying. He was however decided to take full benefit of the times the Lord was giving him, and he spoke with the optimism of a saint assured of his ultimate vacation spot.

Tim Keller was heat, witty, and fearless. He wasn’t shy about tackling the robust problems with the day. He introduced the total weight of the Scriptures unapologetically into the tradition, and he offered and framed messages in an interesting method that managed to attract tens of millions to God’s Wisdom and methods.

It was the Psalmist who wrote, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” (116:15). Tim Keller’s passing grieves these of us who knew, liked and benefited from his ministry – but it surely brings this beloved husband, father, scholar and theologian face-to-face with the God he so loyally and successfully served and worshipped.
