Osprey Mother Seen Fiercely Shielding Eggs In Nest From Pounding Hail
If anybody deserves a pleasant Mother’s Day, it’s this hen.
A feminine osprey was caught on digital camera Tuesday night time determinedly shielding her egg-filled nest as a hailstorm raged round her.
The footage got here from a live feed of the nest ― which is situated in Longmont, Colorado ― revealed by Boulder County Parks and Open Space.
“The female osprey at the Fairgrounds was relentless in protecting her eggs through last night’s hailstorm,” wrote the county division in a Facebook post on Wednesday. “She was pounded by pea-sized hail and never left the nest.”
And the hen of prey’s efforts paid off since, because the division wrote, all of the eggs made it by way of the storm.
“We hope to see chicks in a few weeks,” the submit added.
Some commenters questioned why officers didn’t construct a cover or some type of protecting roof over the nest. But, as others identified, ospreys prefer to nest in open areas.
Plus, the feminine osprey and her mate have been tremendous for years. The reside digital camera has monitored the couple since 2011, Boulder County Parks and Open Space spokesperson Nik Brockman told KOAA.
That is until you rely their relationship issues.
“We observed a few times where a very different male or female showed up on the nest,” Brockman advised the information outlet. “It kind of created some drama.”
